Observations from the IDC MarketScape:
Upon analyzing the trends in the UEM market, the IDC MarketScape for United Endpoint Management Software report urges users to take into account the following while looking to invest long-term in a device management platform:
Integration and interoperability: UEM solutions should be able to fit into the existing IT ecosystem and play well with other adjacent technologies, like ITSM, SIEM, and identity platforms. IT teams must be able to share device-centric data to other platforms and create and run workflows between solutions to truly unify their operations and make the most of their IT investment.
Digital employee experience (DEX): Since the pandemic accelerated digital transformation and fully remote and hybrid work became the new standard, DEX has become paramount in facilitating employee productivity. UEM helps organizations create a seamless digital experience for their employees by provisioning and baselining devices based on employee roles, measuring device performance, and updating and maintaining devices. Hence, organizations must choose a UEM solution that measures DEX-centric parameters and proactively detects and solves device-centric issues that might hamper employee experience.
Breadth of support: Though UEM tools still primarily focus on mainstream devices like PCs, laptops, and smartphones, with the advent and increase in wearables, AR and VR, and IoT devices within office premises and in workspaces, there will be an expectation to include these devices under UEM’s purview as well. It’s better to pick a solution that already supports, or plans to support, the management of such devices.
